Plant Hormones Flashcards
Communication between cells
1) Communication by direct contact
2) Communication by local signalling (paracrine or synaptic)
3) Long-distance signalling (animal hormones)
Plant hormones
Plant hormones transmit information locally or over long distances
Plant hormones are important for:
Growth (Cell expansion and division)
Development and differentiation
Responses to the environment
Plant Growth
Plant hormones act at low concentrations to promote, inhibit or modify growth (sub millimolar-nanomolar)
Plant growth requires cell division and cell elongation
Cell division takes place in localised meristems
Cell elongation takes place away from meristems
Plant Tissue
Dermis: protective covering
Ground tissue: metabolic functions
Vascular tissue: transports materials root to shoot and shoot to root
Auxin
