Plant Growth and Adaptation Flashcards
Nutrients
.substances, such as minerals, that all living things need to grow
Carbon Dioxide
.gas breathed out by animals
which plants need to live
Photosynthesis
. process which plants make its own food
Symmetry
.where one half of an object is a mirror image of the other half
Transpiration
.giving off of water by plant parts
Taproot
one main root a plant that goes deep into the soil
Fibrous root
.many roots of the same size that grow long but not deep
Germinate
.when a seed sprouts after getting enough warmth, water and air
Spore
tiny cells, much smaller than a seed, which can only be seen with a microscope
Tuber
.swollen underground stems
example: potatoes,carrots
Chlorophyll
.the material that makes a leaf green
grafting
.process to join two or more plants to make a new plant
What’s the Plant Life Cycle
.Seeds are the first part of flowering plant’s life cycle
seeds then sprout and grow into mature plants
mature plants then form flowers
flower form pollen which then spread to other flowers
which later flowers form into seeds
1) seed
2) sprout (or germinate)
2) grows to mature plant
3) forms flower
4) flower forms seed
What are the four plant parts?
Seed
Roots
Stem
Leaves
What is the function of the seed
.seed is what a plant is grown from
which later the mature plant form more seeds
