Plant Growing Process Flashcards
What happens in seed germination?
The embryo inside a seed sprouts outside the seed’s coat due to nutrients and water entering it, sprouting into a straight shoot with open leaves.
What happens in seedling formation?
The embryo develops into a seedling and starts growing towards sunlight, utilizing nutrients from the sunlight and roots.
What happens in growth and development?
The plant utilizes photosynthesis to grow; a process that involves sunlight, carbon dioxide and water to produce their own food in the form of glucose.
What happens in differentiation?
Plants start flowering and developing the features that visibly separate them from other species.
What happens in pollination and fertilisation?
Pollen travels from one plant to another with the help of wind and pollinating animals. Fertilization occurs when pollen meets the egg inside the flower, creating seeds.
What happens in the formation of fruit and seeds?
The ovary of the flower develops into a fruit with seeds inside. Ripe fruit acts as a signal for the sseds to be dispersed.
Describe the abiotic factors that are required for seed germination.
Abiotic factors required for seed germination include sunlight, water, soil and temperature.
