Plant Form, Function, and Evolution Flashcards
What ancestral aquatic plant do mor emodern plants originate from?
Green Algae
Define:
Nonvascular
There are no vessels to help bring water upward; mosses are a great example.
What element is necessary for sexual reproduction and why?
Water - So that the motile sperm can reach the egg to intiate thr reproduction of the plant.
Where do mosses live and why?

Define:
Vascular System
A system of tubes and vessels that allow for transport.
Define:
Xylem
Vascular tissue in plants that allows for water transport.
Define:
Phloem
Vascular tissue in plants that allow for the transport fo sugar and other nutrients within the plant.
Define:
Lignin
Strengthening material in the cell walls of phloem and xylem which is produced by the cells of xylem.
Define:
Gymnosperms
These are trees taht have cones which produce seeds. Ex. pine tree
Type of seed plants that bloom flowers
Angiosperms
What part of a seed plant contains the embryo
The seed
These seed plants have cones
Gymnosperms
In Angiosperms what is the seed surrounded by?

What level of “n” are Gametes?
They are just n/haploid.
What level of “n” is a zygote?
2n/Diploid
What are the two groups of seeds?
Monocots and Dicots (Eudicots)
