Plant Cells and Photosynthesis Flashcards
What is the formula for Photosynthesis
6 CO2 + 6 H2O changed using light energy into C6H12O6 + 6 O2
What organelles are found in plant cells but not animal cells
Chloroplast(absorb light energy) and the cell wall
What is the process of a light dependent reaction
The light dependent reaction uses sunlight to split H2O into H and O2. This process also produces ATP
What is the process of a light independent reaction/ Calvin Cycle
The light independent reaction takes CO2 and combines it with H using ATP to make Glucose CH2O
What part does NADP +/H play in Photosynthesis
The NADP+ is a carrier molecule that takes the ATP and hydrogen from the light dependent reaction (becoming NADPH) to the light independent reaction (reverting back to NADP+)
What effects the rate of photosynthesis
Light intensity, CO2 Concentration, Temperature
Where in the cell does the Light Dependent reaction occur
Thylakoid
Where in the cell does the Calvin Cycle occur
Stroma
What is photosynthesis
The plants use of oxygen to make nutrients for itself
What happens to the excess glucose from a photosynthesis
It is stored at starch
Why do darker leaves have more or less chloroplasts?
More because darker leaved plants are more commonly found in shaded or winter climates so they must have a higher concentration of chloroplasts to get more energy out of less sunlight.
When do plants undergo respiration
At night or when there is no light
What is a Granum
A stack of Thylakoids
What is the Stroma
Stroma is a liquid containing enzymes where the Calvin Cycle takes place
