Plant and animal cells and specialised cells Flashcards
What do ribosomes do?
Turn amino acids into protein, site of protein synthesis.
What do chloroplasts do?
Contain chlorophyll, where photosynthesis happens.
What is a cell membrane?
A partially permeable barrier that regulates substances entering and leaving the cell.
What do mitochondrion do?
Take in nutrients and break them down, release energy.
What is a vacuole?
A fluid filled cavity that stores water and nutrients.
What is a specialised cell?
A cell that has a specific structure and function.
What is cell wall made of?
Cellulose, a carbohydrates polymer.
What is plasmid DNA?
Instead of a nucleus in bacteria.
What does a sieve cell do?
Transports carbohydrates around the plant.
What shape are sieve cells?
Tubular with pores in their end walls to form a continuous system.
Are there vacuoles in animal cells?
NO!!!
What do microvilli do?
Absorb digested nutrients and increases the surface area.
What do cilia do?
Sweep away hair, dust, mucus and bacteria, moves them along a tube.
What does haploid mean?
It has half of the chromosome number in the nucleus.
When gametes fuse, what type of cell is produces?
A diploid cell.
