Plant and Animal Cells Flashcards
Definition to word
This is an outer layer in plant cells that provides structure. Mostly made of cellulose.
Cell wall
The outer layer which controls what goes in or out.
Cell membrane
Seprates the organelles and helps the cell membrane keep its shape.
Cytoplasm
Breaks down unecessary stuff.
Lysosomes
These organelle are generated in the nucleus and generate proteins.
Ribosomes
Creates energy using fats and sugars and combining them with oxygen. AKA the powerhouse.
Mitochondria
This is found only in plant cells and uses photosythesis to produce energy. It contains chlorophyll.
Chloroplasts
Assists the ribosomes with producing proteins.
Golgi bodies
It controls the cell and has a nuclear membrane full of pores.
Nucleus
Stays inside the nucleus and contains chromatin, a spread out version of DNA. Also produces ribosomes from proteins.
Nucleolus
This is often larger in plant cells and stores food, water, and waste.
Vacuole
Used to hold substances in the cell.
Endoplasmic reticulum
Each unit of a cell is an __________
Organelle
