Plans Flashcards
3 main electrical drawings
- Schematic
- Wire
- Single line ( Block & Riser)
What do schematic drawings show
Show how electrical circuit operates (used to design or explain electrical circuit)
What do schematic drawings show
Show how electrical circuit operates (used to design or explain electrical circuit)
What are wiring diagrams used for
Used to solve problems with circuit. More detailed version of schematic showing how components are wired up
What are single line diagrams for
Shows distribution of electrical energy with a single line
- can be combination of schematic and line diagrams
- line side/high volts shown on top line
Two types of single line diagrams
-Block diagrams (flow chart with components drawn with blocks)
- Riser diagrams ( used to show power distribution across multiple floors, used in bigger buildings to show how fire alarm/phone lines are wired/connected
What are pictorial drawings
Shows an object in the form of a picture almost like a photo with a realist view. 3 dimension profile
Three types of pictorial drawings
Oblique - 45 degree angle
Isometric - 30 degree angle
Perspective drawings
What is orthographic projection
Multiple 2D drawings of an object to show from all angles. Similar to pictorial but gives precise information about size and shape. Show in 3d in a 2d drawing (side view/top view/front view)
Lettering should always be in capitals on plans true/false
True - titles should have larger font than those used for dimensions
Define visible line
Continuous thick line- normal lines used in drawings schematic borders etc.
Define hidden line
Broken thin line
- - - - - -
Used to show objects which may be hidden from view
Define centre line
— - — - —
Thin broken lines with long and short dash. Used to locate centre of an object such as a bolt hole
Define section line
Used to indicate surface has been cut or sections to be cut
Thin lines in a row on 45degree angle
\\\
Define dimension line
<—————->
Shows exact size on different parts of an object/structure- continuous line with arrows pointing to end of line/side measuring
Define Extension line
Extend outward from both sides of point of interest- dimension lines then drawn inside extension line
<—————>
| |
Define terminators/terminal lines
Places at the ends of dimension lines to mark extremities of structure/object
Define leader lines
Used to point out locations or objects on a drawing so that dimensions can be given in another drawing
Short break lines
Wavy line drawn freehand
- used to show broken section in an object/structure
Define long break line
Like a frequency sign wave
- used to show part of structure/object removed, usually as not enough room to show it all on drawing
What are the 5 drawings in construction prints
1 Site/plot
2 plan drawings
3 elevation drawings
4 sectional drawings
5 detail drawings
What 4 major divisions are in a set of construction prints
1: architectural drawings
2: structural drawings
3: mechanical drawings
4: electrical drawings
Each of these divisions consist of
Site/plot drawing
Plan drawing
Elevation drawing
Sectional drawing
Detail drawing
What are revisions on plans
When a change is made to plans revisions are recorded top of title block on new plan
Where is scale shown
Title block
What are two reference lines called
Grid lines - like battle ships a1 number up axis and letters on other axis
Bay lines- point out a specific structure
What division is electrical
Division 26
What is electric site/plot plans
Copy of architectural site plans with added info for electrician eg exterior manholes l/hydro, exterior lighting, power poles/telephone poles
What are electrical floor plans
Must popular drawing for electricians. Shows layout of lighting/outlets etc. what I used in kadenwood
If luminaries not available contractor must…..
Request approval from architect (D)
There are 5 circulating pumps who’s responsibility to wire thermostat
Contractor that supplies equipment (C)
Explain sectional drawing
Sectional/cross sectional show hidden detail- inside wall structure vapour barrier, shearing, siding etc.
What is sectional drawing symbol
“Eyeball”
Arrow points to direction of view
Top indicates section number
Bottom indicates page/sheet number
Explain detail drawing
Shows small part of entire project on large scale. Example - concrete Column in detail finish dimensions lighting built in etc.
What are shop drawings/fabrication drawing
Show fabricators detailed information in order to fabricate/ or provided to electricians will show size and shape of piece of equipment. Front side and top view
Explains- As built drawings
Used to keep record of how a project was actually built. Can be used for reference for any future work
What is notation
Note providing additional or more specific information
Explain set back
Separation between a building and the lot/ land it’s on
What are working drawings
Working drawings are final approved drawings needed to build/ manufacture.
What 5 divisions do “working drawings” include
Architectural
Structural
Mechanical
Plumbing
Electrical
Working detail drawings
an accurately measured and detailed drawing of a structure, machine, etc., or of any part of one, used as a guide to workers in constructing it
Working detail drawing
Shows how all parts of an individual working detail drawing fit together. IKEA furniture example
Working detail assembly drawing
Shows information on parts as well as object and assembly
Name some working drawings divisions
Site/plot
Plan
Elevation
Inside elevation
Sectional
Detail
Shop drawings
As built drawing
Plan drawings
Shown as floor plan- plans we use the most. Will have grid lines for reference
What are elevation drawings
Front view of an object or structure. Shows what a building will look like from outside with dimensions
Inside elevation drawing
Same as elevation drawing but shows inside wall spaces etc. good for electrical to plan wire pull and where to put boxes etc.
What is on index page
First page of a set of working drawings. Labelled for each division - structural (s1)
Landscape (L4) etc.
What is title block on drawings
Everything must have it always on lower right hand corner and shows info like
Date
Name adress of engineer
Architech name adress
Person who made drawing
Title of drawing etc
How many cm in metre
How many mm in cm
1m = 100cm
1m =1000cm
1cm =10mm
1” in cm=
1cm in “=
1” = 2.54cm
1cm = 0.3937
1:20 scale wall is 20mm how many inches is object
Real size = scale x length
1 divide 20 x 20 = 1mm
1mm to inch= 0.1 divide 2.54= 0.0394
How many cm in 1”
2.54 cm in 1”
25.4mm in 1”
To find cm in inches divide mm/cm by 2.54 = 20cm divide 2.54cm = 7.8”
What is process of drawings before bidding tenure
1: Preliminary drawings - architect
2: sub trade provided by
Structural engineer
Mechanical engineer
Plumbing engineer
Electrical engineer
3: final drawings ready
4: bidding tenure
