Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty: Smaller than National Parks. Around 36 in England, and 9 in NI (Causeway and Mournes are two).
What are the factors that contribute to increased urbanisation in LEDCs?
-Rural poverty: Pushes people out of the countryside to urban areas to look for work.-Natural disasters like droughts, and famine are primary causes of rural to urban migration. -Medical advances result in lower death rate. most migrants are young so raise the birth rate in cities.
What are the problems posed by rapid LEDC urbanisation?
Growth of Shanty TownsService provision strainedInformal economic activity (like prostitution or drug dealing)
Discuss Growth of Informal Settlements
-1/3 of city dwellers in LEDCs live in informal settlements-No utility provision to these houses-Diseases spread rapidly, like Dengue fever
