Planet Earth Flashcards
Glaciers
Large mass of slow moving ice
Lava
Magma that reaches the earth’s surface
Drought
Long periods of lower than normal
Revolution
Earth’s yearly trip around the sun
Latitude
The distance north to south of the equator
Fresh water
Water found in Earth’s streams, rivers, and lakes
Run off
Precipitation that flows over land into rivers
Weathering
The process of breaking rock in to smaller pieces
Rotion
One complete spin of Earth on its axis
Water cycle
The circulation of water in from Earth’s surface to the atmosphere and back
Water vapor
Water that falls to the earth surface as snow rain sleet or hail
Land forms
Shapes on the planet surface
Continents
Large landmass
Erosion
Movement of sediment from one location to another.
Axis
An imaginary line around which the planet.
Surface water
Water on surface of the planet such as in a stream, river, lake, wetland, or ocean
Continental drift
Movement of the Earth’s continent.
Solar energy
A radiant light and heat from the sun
Condensation
The conversion Of a vapor or gas to a liquid
Tropics
Regions of earth has seasons marked by change in rainfall rather than temperature
Seasons
each of the four seasons marked by particular weather patterns and daylight hours, resulting from the earth’s changing position with regard to the sun.
Evaporation
Liquid water molecules changing into water vapor eating the atmosphere.
Plate tectonics
a theory explaining the structure of the earth’s crust and many associated phenomena as resulting from the interaction of rigid lithospheric plates that move slowly over the underlying mantle.
Tilt
The tilt creates the changing seasons
