Planes and Axis of Movement Flashcards
1
Q
why is this important to know?
A
- anatomical imaging is in all 3 planes
2. movement is in 3D and need to train in all 3
2
Q
sagittal plane
A
moving forwards and backwards, front and back of the body (running, somersaults)
3
Q
frontal plane
A
moving side to side, right and left of the body (jumping jacks, cartwheels)
4
Q
transverse plane
A
moving by turning, upper and lower parts of the body (spinning, twists)
5
Q
horizontal axis
A
used by sagittal plane for flexion and extension
6
Q
anteroposterior axis
A
used by frontal plane for abduction and adduction
7
Q
longitudinal axis
A
used by transverse plane for internal and external rotation
