Plane parts Flashcards
Primary flight control surface which control movement about the longitudinal axis of an aircraft.
Aileron
Aerodynamic devices allowing a pilot to adjust and control the aircraft’s flight attitude.
Control Surfaces
A primary flight control surface that controls movement about the lateral axis of an aircraft.
Elevator
An arrangement of stabilizing surfaces at the tail of an aircraft.
Empennage
A high lift device consisting of a hinged panel or panels
Flap
Often integrated into the wings, and when there are also tanks inside the body of the aircraft
Fuel tank
Long hollow tube which holds all the pieces of an airplane together.
Fuselage
It is used to maintain the aircraft in longitudinal balance, or trim: it exerts a vertical force at a distance
Horizontal stabilizer
The part that supports the weight of an airplane or spacecraft when in contact with the land or water
Landing gear
The forming elements of the structure of a wing.
Ribs
The primary flight control surface which controls rotation about the vertical axis of an aircraft. This movement is referred to as “yaw”.
Rudder
The outer surface which covers much of its wings and fuselage. The most commonly used materials are aluminum
Skin
The main structural member of the wing, running spanwise at right angles to the fuselage.
Spar
A device which intentionally reduces the lift component of an airfoil
Spoliers
They are attached to formers (also called frames) and run in the longitudinal direction of the aircraft.
Stringers
