Plan or plan means foot
Plan moyen ou plan pied
Fits one or more characters in the foot
Italian plan

shot of a character to the knees
American plan
plan Américain Fits the characters mid-thigh. Typical of the American movies of the 1930s and 40s
Close-size or close-waist plan
Plan rapproché ou plan-taille
Shows the characters from the belt mainly. Helps us focus on what they say and do without attracting undue attention to fine details of their play-acting
Close chest
Plan rapproché-poitrine
Same function as close-waist, accentuating the facial features of the characters
Close-up
Gros plan
Only part of the character is seen. Plan of the psychological analysis
Very close
très gros plan
Shows a single object, a detail on the face. Draws attention to a detail that is dramatically striking.
Plan detail
Plan détaillé
The equivalent of a close-up but for an object. Used to highlight a detail of the decor.
