Plama / Cell Membrane Flashcards
Phospholipid bi layer
Polar head/ non polar tails of phospholipid molecules. And bimolecular lipid layer.
Peripheral protein
Enzyme. Amphipathic. Outside or inside cell
Integral proteins
Travels all the way or half way through lipid bi layer. Used to transport protein
Glycoproteins
Cell receptor/ cell recognition.
Carb c protein
Glycolipid
Cell receptor/ cell recognition.
Carb c lipid
Cholesterol
Stabilizes cell membrane.
Cytoplasm
Cellular region between nuclear and plasma membrane. Consist of cytosol (liquid) and organelles
Mitochondria
Site of ATP synthesis. Power house of cell. (Can replicate)
Ribosomes
Site of protein synthesis. (Doesn’t have membrane)
Rough endoplasmic reticulum
Makes a lot of proteins that are secreted from cell. Makes cell membrane
Smooth endoplasmic reticulum
Makes lipids. Site of lipid and steroid synthesis. Lipid metabolism and drug detox
Golgi apparatus
Modifies/segregates protein (final product) for secretion
Lysosomes
Intercellular digestion. (Breaks things down/ can be reused)
Centnoles
Forms spindle and asters in mitosis. Doesn’t have membrane
Nucleus
Control center of cell. Responsible for genetic info and providing instructions on protein synthesis
