Stability
The city/country is free from war, conflict, low crime rates, and the government is in a stable position.
Health care?
Access to public and private doctors is good.
Culture and environment?
Air and water pollution are low, green spaces, restaurants and entertainment facilities.
Education?
Good access to high-quality schools and universities, high levels of literacy for both males and females.
What is a settlement?
A place, typically one which has previously been uninhabited, where people establish a community.
What are some factors that all early settlements established?
Building materials - needed wood or stone, useful to be near a forest or rocky hillside.
Shelter - a north facing slope will have more sun and protection from the wind, trees can also provide protection.
Water - needed for drinking, cooking and washing. Too much can cause flooding.
Flat land - easy to build on, grow crops, and travel.
River - easy to cross either by foot or bridge (used for transport).
Rich soil - for growing fertile crops, to provide a food source.
Protection - good views form the hill tops let you know if you there are attackers or invaders.

Border - the line around the outside of the map
Orientation - an arrow facing up with an N next to it
Legend - a key, showing the density
Title - the name given to the map from the data
Scale - a measure between the map and the real world
