Explain the nature of effective verbal communication
Speak concisely, practice active listening, pay attention to your body language, practice empathy, and speak clearly. Make sure to ask for clarification when needed
Give verbal directions
Give clear steps that are easy to follow, make sure that the other person can ask for clarifications, make sure to provide the information concisely in order to avoid overwhelming the listener.
Employ communication styles appropriate to target audiences

- Change the tone and formality based on the audience
- Think about culture! What kind of culture is your audience from?
- Tailor content to your audience, since different types of people resonate with different things
Handle telephone calls in a businesslike manner

- Engage audience by interacting if possible
- Make sure that your presentation isn’t too long
- At the end, be prepared for questions and try to answer them as well as possible
- If it is a business deal, have a closing and a call to action
