Indian Removal Act
Passed in 1830 during andrew jackson’s presidency. Authorized federal government to make treaties with indians to relocate them so that americans could settle and do agriculture

Forced relocation of Native Americans tribes from homelands. Happened 1830s, following Indian Removal Act. Forced to march 1000 miles, on foot, through harsh weather and environment

opposed Andrew Jackson 1833-1834, thought he miss used presidential power. Supported a strong role for congress over the presidency. Promoted protective tariffs, federal funding for infrastructure, national banks. Henry Clay. party fell apart late due to division over slavery

Nickname for william henry presidential campaign in 1840. one of the first modern style political campaigns. Whigs embraced the image of the humble man of the people.

The Overland Trails (1830s-1860s) were routes used by settlers and emigrants traveling westward for expansion, settlement, and trade. Key trails included the Oregon Trail (to Oregon for farming), the California Trail (to California during the Gold Rush), the Mormon Trail (to Salt Lake Valley for religious freedom), and the Santa Fe Trail (for trade to New Mexico).

The Alamo
Battle of the Alamo, which took place from February 23 to March 6, 1836, during the Texas Revolution. Texian rebels (around 180-250 men), including notable figures like James Bowie, William B. Travis, and Davy Crockett, defending the fort against a much larger Mexican army. After a 13-day siege, the Mexican army defeated the defenders, killing nearly all of them.

Battle of San Jacinto
april 21, 1836
decisive battle of the Texas Revolution, near present-day Houston, Texas. Sam Houston led the Texian forces against General Santa Anna’s Mexican army. Texians launched a surprise attack while the Mexican forces were resting, and within 18 minutes, they overwhelmed them. Santa Anna was captured, and he signed the Treaty of Velasco, which granted Texas independence from Mexico.
