Piper Seminole Emergency Checklist Flashcards
1
Q
Engine fire during start
A
If engine has not started: Starter.....continue to crank Mixture....idle cut-off Throttle....full open If engine has already started: Continue operating to pull fire into the cylinders If fire continues: Fuel selectors....off Electric fuel pumps....off Mixtures....idle cut-off Abandon aircraft if fire continues
2
Q
Engine failure during takeoff below 75 KIAS
A
Throttles.... close Brakes.........as required Directional control......maintain If there is insufficient runway: Fuel selectors....off Throttles/mixtures....closed/idle cut-off Electric fuel pumps.....off Battery master switch....off Magneto switches.....off Brakes.....maximum Maneuver to avoid obstacles
3
Q
Engine failure during takeoff above 75 kias
A
If sufficient runway remains: Directional control......maintain Throttles......close Land and stop......straight ahead Brakes.....as required If gear in transit or up and continuing: Directional control... maintain Airspeed....88kias or above Mixture......full fwd Propellers....full fwd Throttles....full fwd Gear... retracted Flaps....retracted Inoperative engine...identify Throttles...verify inoperative Inoperative engine propeller...*feather Declare emergency and Land as soon as practical *complete engine securing procedure if time permits
4
Q
Engine failure in flight
A
If below Vmc: Rudder....apply against yaw Throttles....retard Pitch attitude...reduce to gain airspeed Operative engine....increase power once above vmc If above vmc: Directional control....maintain Airspeed....88kias or above Mixture....full fwd Propellers....full fwd Throttles....full fwd Gear....retracted Flaps....retracted Inoperative engine....identify Throttle.....verify inoperative Insufficient altitude remaining: Inoperative engine propeller...*feather *complete engine securing procedure if time permits If sufficient altitude remains, complete engine restart checklist
5
Q
Engine restarting checklist
A
Fuel selectors….on
Carb heat….on
Fuel pump….on
Magneto switches….L,R, then both
Throttle mixture….try different settings
Engine gauges/fuel quantity….check
If unsuccessful, complete engine securing procedure
6
Q
Engine securing procedure (feathering)
A
Throttle....retard to verify Propeller....feather above 950 rpm Mixture....idle cut-off Fuel selectors...off Cowl flap...close Carb heat....off Electric fuel pump...off Alternator...off Magneto switches...off Electrical load....reduce Crossfeed....as required Declare emergency and land as soon as practical
7
Q
Unfeathering procedure
A
Fuel selector....on Mixture....rich Throttle....open 1/4 in Electric fuel pump....on Alternator....on Magneto switches...on Propeller....full forward Starter...engage if required Throttle....15” until engine warm Cowl flap....open Carb heat.... verify off
8
Q
One engine inoperative landing
A
Engine securing procedure...complete Operating engine: Fuel selector....on Electric fuel pump....on Mixture...full rich Propeller....full forward Cowl flap....as required Altitude/airspeed....make normal approach When landing is assured: Landing gear.... verify down Flaps....25 max Final approach speed 90kias Throttle....reduce slowly during flare
9
Q
Engine fire in flight
A
Affected engine: Fuel selector....off Throttle....idle Propeller....feather Mixture....idle cut-off Cowl flap....open Engine securing procedure....complete If fire persists: Airspeed...increase to blow out fire Land as soon as possible at the nearest suitable airport
10
Q
Engine roughness
A
Carb heat...on If roughness continues after 1 minute: Carb heat...off Mixture....adjust for max smoothness Electric fuel pump....on Engine gauges...check Magneto switches....L,R, then both Continue operation on good magneto at reduced power and full rich mixture to first suitable airport
11
Q
Engine overheat
A
Cowl flaps… open
Mixture… enrich
Power…reduce
Airspeed….increase if altitude permits
12
Q
High/low oil pressure
A
High oil pressure Power....minimum required If oil temp is high... land ASAP If oil temp is low.... land as soon as practical Low oil pressure Power.... minimum required Land as soon as practical
