What percentage of the drunk victims were helped in the first 70 seconds?
17%
What did Piliavin conclude from his study?
The certain characteristics of the victim determine how likely they are to receive help. If they are disabled, they are seen as more deserving and therefore are more likely to receive help.
One strength of the study is that as well as quantitative data, it also collected what other type of data?
Qualitative
Why is having qualitative data collected as well a strength of the study?
Because it can lead to deeper understanding of why people did or did not help
What is one weakness of the study?
The sample of people studied were likely to be people who lived in the city who were used to ignoring people in need. This means it cannot be generalised to the general population.
What is one strength of the study?
People were not aware that they were being studied so their behaviour was likely to be natural. This means the study is high in ecological validity.
