Pilates Exam Flashcards
What is attached to the spine?
Pelvis and Rib Cage
Axial Skeleton
Connected to the spine
Cervical Spine
Neck, 8 vertebrae: easiest place to move, most mobile, and least stable
Thoracic Spine
The longest section of the spine, outward curve
Lumbar Spine
5 Vertibra
Sacrum
Tailbone is at the end of the Sacrum
Pelvic Section
Includes the tailbone and sacrum
Spinal Flexion
Roll up where the neck is curved in: swan is opposite because of spine extension
Lateral Flexion
Laterally flexing the spine either way, spinal twist
Neutral
Position of spine
Spinal Rotation
Rotation of spine
Spinal Articulation
Can articulate from extension through neutral into flexion and vice versa
Tendon
Attaches to spine
Rib bones
Small and flexible
Hip Bones
Very dense
Transverse Abdominis
Helps stabilize neutral, and has many functions- in between ribs and hips
Internal Obliques
Run at a diagonal from the outer hip to the inside of the lower ribs
External Obliques
Attach to outer ribs and run to inside of hips
Inflection
If all 4 obliques contract at the same time
Twist Right
Right internal oblique contracts and left external oblique
Single leg circles
Stabilize neutral, knee folds
Rectus Abdominis
If trained can look like 6 pack, mini crunch, only involved in spinal flection
