A

23
Q

ID the cornea

A

Translucent structure.

However in a post mortem specimen, the cornea takes a cloudy blue-grey, semi-opaque appearance.

24
Q

What is the limbus?

A

The junction of the cornea and the sclera

25
Q

What are the two techniques that are commonly used to performed enucleation?

A

Transpalpebral approach
AND
Subconjunctival approach

26
Q

When would a Transpalpebral approach to enucleation be more appropriate?

A

In patients with a tight globe-orbit relationship, such as a cat or a patient with buphthalmos, a transpalpebral approach may be more easily accomplished.

27
Q

When would a subconjunctival approach to enucleation be more appropriate?
Possible risks?

A

• The subconjunctival approach eliminates bleeding from the skin and orbicularis muscle. However, it runs the risk of potentially not removing all secreting membranes, meaning that if enucleation in this manner is incompletely performed, the patient could still have functional lacrimal tissue that can subsequently fill up the space previously occupied by the globe.

28
Q

What is the optic nerve?

A

Transmits all the signals from the back of the eye to the brain.

29
Q

What is the vascular layer of the eye?

A

Choroid

30
Q

What do the band or ring of ligaments lining the inside and the ciliary muscles do?

A

Help change the shape of the eye with accommodation.
