Q

Azienda Agricola Alberto Oggero

BIO

A

Alberto Oggero was born in Canale in 1985 and twenty years later he finished his oenological studies in Alba, but his experience with viticulture dates back to his childhood, when he would follow his grandfather Sandro into the vineyards every time he had the chance.

This lifelong love for the land of Roero culminated in 2009, when he accomplished his dream to restore his family’s house and cellar, and take the care of his grandfather’s vineyards into his own hands: Roero Arneis 2010 and Roero 2011 are the first vintages bottled under the Alberto Oggero label.

Alberto currently owns and tends to 3 hectars of vineyard, and produces about 9.000 bottles per year (Roero, Roero Arneis and Sandro ed Pindeta, a wine obtained from nebbiolo grapes and vinified in steel tanks).

Certified organic by ICEA Piemonte.

The vineyard is located in Bricco Coste in Santo Stefano Roero.

Q

ERBALUNA BIO

A

The ERBALUNA farm is located on the grounds of the winery owned by brothers fratelli Andrea e Severino Oberto, who continue their family tradition which dates back into the last century.

Immediately, the visitor notes the right balance between classic wine-making methods and more modern techniques: old bottles lined up in quiet, out-of-the-way places, exposed-brick vaulted ceilings in the cellars, and massive wooden casks for slow ageing of the Barolo wine live side-by-side with stainless steel vats and up-to-date machinery.

The decision to follow organic methods was made in 1985 and it was the result of a natural desire to rediscover the direct contact with the land which in the previous years was becoming lost. In keeping with regional tradition, the Oberto brothers produce only full-bodied red wines: Barolo della Vigna Rocche is their best known; other DOC wines are Barbera, Nebbiolo, Dolcetto.

Erbaluna Chinato

A

16 percent alcohol

organic

The recipe based on natural infusion of cinchona bark Calissaja, rhubarb root, cinnamon, vanilla, rhubarb root and gentian and a dozen other herbs, with final addition of flavoring spices, including the precious seed of cardamom.

The vinification of this Barolo scrupulously follows the dictates of tradition and the rules of production of DOCG. The maceration lasts about 40 days at a temperature of about 30°C. It is then placed in traditional oak casks where it rests for at least two years. Another year is spent by the wine in the bottle.

Erbaluna Rocche dell’Annunziata Barolo 2011

A

ABV 14.5 %

Organic

2011 was a warm year defined by later harvest and a smaller crop.

This comes from one of the 166 166 Barolo sottozone (sub zones) Rocche dell’Annunziata which is from the commune of La Morra. This was the first documented vineyard in 1194 by Benedictine monks. Considered one of the best places for Nebbiolo in all of Barolo. This is a south east facing vineyard 300 meters above sea level. The soil is Tortonian which is composed of clay, chalk and high portion of silt.

Andrea Oberto uses less oak on his Rocche dell’Annuziata to let the delicate fruit shine.

Barbera was first discovered in the 7th century.

2014 was a drought year yet Barbera excelled in La Morra.

‘la Rosina’ comes from 100% Barbera which is manually harvested by rigorous selection in late September. It is left to ferment naturally for 8-10 days in a tank with continuous pumping for 4-6 days. The wine is then moved to large oak barrels for 6-8 months of ageing. The wine is finally bottled at the end of the summer, and then rested for 2 months before being set free of the cellar.
