Pictures Flashcards
What does this slide show?
This shows a skin reaction. This shows small blood vessels in the dermis & surrounding that perivascular dermal region are a bunch of nuclei, a bunch of cells! These are lymphocytes (T cells) & monocytes. This shows that we are dealing with a delayed (not an immediate) hypersensitivity.
What does this slide show? What are the brown spots?
The antibodies specific for CD4 cells are stained with immunoperoxidase. This enzyme converts the CD4 cells to a brown substance. The other cells are likely monocytes.
What does this slide show?
this shows a lymph node with granulomatous inflammation. See granulomas with a bunch of epitheloid cells, giant cells, and lymphocytes. If these granulomas were seen in the lungs–it would likely mean TB.
What does this slide show?
the big “open” space is actually a fluid-filled vesicle. surrounding the vesicle is a profound mononuclear cell infiltrate. This is classic Type IV delayed hypersensitivity reaction. In this case due to poison ivy contact.
What does this picture show?
Immune Complex Deposition at the Dermal-Epidermal Junction
This is a patient with SLE
What does this image show?
anti-double stranded DNA in SLE
What does this image show?
anti-ribonucleoprotein in a patient with SLE
What does this picture show?
The thyroid shows infiltration of the parenchyma by a mononuclear inflammatory infiltrate containing small lymphocytes, plasma cells, and well-developed germinal centers
What does this picture show?
This pic shows the infiltration of lymphocytes & the loss of structure of the thyroid.
What does this picture show?
The arrow points to an onion skin lesion. This is, unfortunately, indicative of diffuse scleroderma.
What does this picture show?
The fibrosis consistent with scleroderma.
What does this picture show?
This was taken from a patient with Sjogren syndrome. Infiltration of a gland!
What does this picture show?
Lymphoid foci—seen on lip biopsy of accessory salivary glands
What does this picture show?
Hyperacute graft rejection
What does this picture show?
Acute Graft Rejection
