Why is it on the spec
Sonata form. Exposition of 2 Subjects, followed by a development and then a recapitulation of the 2 subjects.

Dynamics
Very Dramatic changes which is typical of the romantic period.
Uses the new technology of the piano to add quiet and loud sections. Lots of crescendos and diminuendos
Rhythm
heavy use of silences for drama. Starts Grave in the introduction. 4/4 time signature. Becomes very fast later on (allegro di molto e con brio). Lots of quaver and semiquaver rhythms. dotted rhythms
Structure
Sonata form. Start with a unusually long introduction. Coda in the recapitulation. Snippets of the introduction throughout.
Melody
Lots of scalic runs in the right hand. Sopra between Subject 1 and 2. Sequences. Broken chords in 2b. Ornamentation.

Piano
Texture
Homophonic in many sections. MDH. one moment of monophonic playing at the end of the development
Tonality
Key of C minor. Modulates to lots of different keys throughout.
Eb minor in 2nd Subject. G minor in Development. C minor and F minor in the recapitulation
Harmony
lots of diminished 7ths. Dissonance. Perfect cadence at the end
