what are the four categories of schematic development?
assimilation, equilibrium, disequilibrium and accommodation
what is assimilation?
when the child has constructed an understanding or a concept
what is equilibrium?
when the child’s experience fits in with their schema
what is disequilibrium?
when a new experience has disturbed their schema
what is accommodation?
when the child’s understanding/schema changes to fit in with their new experience
what are the stages of moral development?
premoral, moral realism, and moral relativism
what is pre-moral?
premoral happens between 0-4 years — children are learning right from wrong and base their learning on observations from adults responses to their actions
what is moral realism
the first part of moral realism happens aged 4-7 years. children are influenced by adults in their lives and their judgements depend on what they believe adults expectations are
what is moral realism
the second part of moral realism happens at 7-11 years. children have developed a concept of fairness
what is moral relativism
moral relativism happens aged 11+ and children understand equity might not equal fairness. motive is also considered for actions
