Physiology: Visual field Flashcards

1
Q

what 4 things need to happen in order to see something

A
  • the pattern of an object must fall onto the visual receptors(cones + rods in retina)
  • amount of light entering eye must be regulated(too much will ‘bleach out’ image)
  • energy from waves of photons of lights must be transduced to electrical signals
  • brain must receive and interpret these signals

Q

what is the retina divided in half relative to, and what are the 2 halves called

A

relative to the fovea(centre of macula)

divided into nasal and temporal hemiretina

Q

where does the information travel to from retina to the brain to be processed

A

visual field mapped by retina, the signal to LGN via optic nerve, then to primary visual cortex to be processed and interpreted
