Physiology - Secretions Flashcards
- What are the three types of glands?
Single cell mucous glands, secretory cells and tubular glands
- What is the composition and function of mucus?
composed by water, ions and glycoproteins
has adhesive properties
protects gut walls from bacteria, big hard food pieces and buffering
- What is the composition, production and regulation of saliva?
Composed by mucus, water and ptyalin
Production is in two steps, first acini cells secrete ecf,, mucus and ptyalin (initiates the digestion of carbs), secondly theres the absorption of na+/cl- and secretion of k+/hco3-
Is regulated by long reflexes through the autonomic nervous system, by local stimuli of chemo- and mechanoreceptors and by visual/olfactory stimuli
- What is the secretion present in the esophagus and what is the function?
Mucus
continues carbs digestion and avoid demage due stomach acid influx
- What types of cells are present in the gastric glands?
mucous neck cells, parietal cells, chief cells, g cells, enterochromaffin-like cells and delta cells
- Mucous neck cells
found in the neck of the gland
releases mucus and bicarbonate
help create the gastric barrier
higher production upon mucosa irritation
