Q
  1. What is the composition, production and regulation of saliva?
A

Composed by mucus, water and ptyalin

Production is in two steps, first acini cells secrete ecf,, mucus and ptyalin (initiates the digestion of carbs), secondly theres the absorption of na+/cl- and secretion of k+/hco3-

Is regulated by long reflexes through the autonomic nervous system, by local stimuli of chemo- and mechanoreceptors and by visual/olfactory stimuli

found in the neck of the gland
releases mucus and bicarbonate
help create the gastric barrier
higher production upon mucosa irritation
