Physiology Flashcards
What is the sagittal/midsagittal plane? What words describe location with respect to it?
Splits body into left and right side. Medial is closer to sagittal plane, lateral is farther.
What is the coronal/frontal plane? What words describe location relative to it?
Devides body into front (anterior/ventral), and back (posterior/dorsal).
What is the transverse plane? What words describe location relative to it.
Divide body into top half and body half. Superior is above this line, inferior is below.
What is the point of reference?
The main trunk of the body (chest and midsection).
What is proximal vs distal?
Proximal is closer to core of body, distal is farther from core.
What is the integumentary system?
Protects body from injury, infection and dehydration. Helps regulate body temp.
Eg. Skin, sweat and oil glands, nails, hair.
What is the special senses body system?
Allows body to react to environment providing taste, smell, sight, hearing, and balance.
Where is the tricuspid valve?
Connects the right atrium and ventricle.
Where is the pulmonary valve?
Connects the right ventricle to the pulmonary arteries.
What is the bicuspid/mitral valve?
Connects the left atrium and ventricle.
What is systolic mean?
Top number of blood pressure. Pressure in arteries when hearts ventricles contract and force blood through the arteries. This is time of highest pressure.
What is Diastolic?
Bottom number in blood pressure reading. When your ventricles relax and refill with blood. Blood isn’t being forced through arteries, causing lower pressure.
