Physiographic Regions of BC Flashcards
What are the typical physical/landscape characteristics of intrusive igneous (Plutonic) rocks?
Relatively resistant to weathering, steep slopes, blocky terrain.
What are the typical physical/landscape characteristics of extrusive igneous rocks?
Weather relatively rapidly, Can be strong or weak, Sometimes Slope instability, gradual slopes/lava sheets
What are the typical physical/landscape characteristics of Sedimentary Rocks?
Can be erosion prone (Mudstone, shale, limestone), sandstone/conglomerates are relatively resistant.
What are the typical physical/landscape characteristics of metamorphic rocks?
Can be resistant (gniess) while some schists are erodible. Marble extremely resistant.
