Physics Exam - 8 grade - 3 trimester - 2 midterm Flashcards
Circuit:
Is a route through which electrical current can flow.
How do electrons flow?
They flow from the negative points of the battery to the positive.
Magnetism:
is the set of phenomena related with magnets and magnetic materials.
Depending on the origin magnets can be:
Naturally occurring and manmade.
Examples of naturally ocurring magnets are:
Iron, nickel, cobalt, titanium oxide.
Examples of manmade magnets are:
Materials that when they interact with strong magnets or electromagnetic current become magnets.
What is a magnetic field?
Is the disturbance generated by a magnet in a region in space
Electromagnetism:
Is the field of study that merges electric phenomena and magnetic
phenomena in a single theory.
Examples of Electromagnetic machines are:
Solenoids, Electromagnets, Electric Motors, Dynamos.
Solenoid:
Is a coil of current-carrying wire.
Electromagnet:
Is a solenoid with a coil made of magnetic material such as iron. The magnetic field becomes stronger.
An electric motor transforms electrical energy into:
Mechanical energy. It has external magnets.
Dynamo:
Is a machine that transforms mechanical energy into electrical energy.
Electric power plant:
Is an industrial facility which produces electrical energy.
Nucelar Plants:
Nuclear reactions are used to heat water and produce steam. Energy yield from this plants is high. It is non-renewable. Produces wastes.
