Physics EoY F3 Flashcards
What is the formula for kinetic energy?
k.e = (mass x velocity squared)/2
What is the formula for gravitational potential energy?
g.p.e = mgh
What is the formula for work?
w = force X distance
What is the formula for power?
P = e/t
What is the formula for efficiency?
efficiency = useful energy out/total energy in
What is the formula for acceleration?
a = change in velocity/time
What is the formula for force?
F = ma
What is the formula for weight?
W = mass X g
What is the formula for momentum?
Momentum = mass X velocity
What is the formula for moment?
M = force X perpendicular distance from pivot
What is the formula for Hooke’s Law/spring extension?
Force = spring constant X extension
How do you calculate the resultant force?
bigger force - smaller force
What is terminal velocity?
The point at which a falling object will have its weight be equal to air resistance.
What are 2 factors that affect air resistance?
Velocity of the object| Surface area of the object
What happens when the velocity of an object increases?
The air resistance increases.
What do unbalanced forces cause?
Acceleration/change in motion.
What is weight?
The effect of a gravitational field on a body with mass.
What can forces do?
- change size of body- change shape of body- change body’s motion
What is the gradient of a speed-time graph?
Acceleration.
What is the gradient of a distance-time graph?
Speed.
How do you find distance in a speed-time graph?
Calculating the area under the graph.
What is the centre of mass?
The average mass position of a body.
What can the position of the centre of mass tell us?
The lower the centre of mass, the more stable the object.
What is the difference between scalars and vectors?
Both have magnitude, but vectors have direction.
What is GPE?
Energy stored in a gravitational field.
What is power?
Power is the rate at which energy is transferred.
What is work done?
Work done is the energy transferred to an object when a force is applied on it, causing it to displace itself.
