Physics (energy) Flashcards
What are all the 8 energy stores
- thermal,kenetic,gpe,elastic potential,chemical,magnetic,electrostatic,Nuclear
What is a system
Single object
What happens when a system changes
Energy is transferred. can be away or into system between different objects in system or between different types of energy stores
What is a closed system
where neither matter/energy can eneter/leave
next change in total energy-0
Energy transferred by heating
Energy is transferred to the system by heating into the system’s thermal energy store which causes temperature to rise
Energy transferred by Doing work
Work done energy transferred r the same
-Work done-when current flows(against resistance in circuit)
-by force of moving object
how do moving bjects hace enegryin its kenetic energys store
- energy is transfered when obkect speeds up and then away when it slows down
- KES depends on objectsmass& speed faster& larger mass=more energy in KES
What is the kinetic energy store equation
Ek=1/2mv^2
Kenetic energy(j)= 1/2 x mass (kg) x speed^2(m/s^2
Where do Raised objects store Energy
-GPE stores
Lifting object in gravitational feils neds work - transfer of energy-GPE stores of raised object
- objects mass,height & strength- amount of energy in gpe stores
GPE Stores equation?
Ep= mgh
Gpe(j) = mass(kg) x gravitational field strength(N/Kg) x height (m)
What energy do falling objects transfer
- GPE store energy tansfered - KES
- when no air resistance:
Energy lost from GPE store= energy gained from KES
What Energy store can stretching transfer to
- EPE stores
Equation for elastic potential energy stores (EPE stores)
- if limit of proportion has not been exceeded energy in EPE store found with
Ee=1/2Ke^2
EPE(j)=1/2 x spring constant ( N/m) x Extension^2(m)
Materials heat capacities
- more energy - transfered to TES of some materials - increase temp
- materials that need to gain alt of energy in TES - warm up -also transfer alot enegry when cool down again - can store lots of energy
what is specific Heat capacity
- amount of energy needed to raise temp of 1 kg of substance bt 1degrees celcius
