Physics - ELECRICITY & CIRCUITS Flashcards
What is current?
The flow of charge around a circuit.
What is current measured in?
Amps (A) / Ammeters are connected in series.
What is potential difference?
A measure of the energy given to the charge carriers in a circuit.
What is potential difference measured in?
Volts (V) / Voltmeters are connected in parallel.
What is resistance?
A measure of how hard it is for electricity to pass through a component.
What is resistance measured in?
Ohms (Ω)
What is a series circuit?
A series circuit has components arranged one after the other along the same route.
What is a parallel circuit?
A parallel circuit has two or more paths for current to flow through.
What makes a circuit incomplete?
An incomplete circuit is a circuit that does not have a complete path for electricity to flow.
Thermistor
A thermistor is a component where resistance changes with its temperature. Usually, increasing temperature decreases the resistance. We can use a thermistor to turn a heater off when a house reaches certain temperatures.
Diode
A diode is a circuit component that only allows current to flow in one direction.
Fuse
A fuse breaks the circuit if a fault in an appliance causes too much current to flow.
LED (light emitting diode)
Light can be produced in different ways; a light-emitting diode (LED) close light-emitting diode (LED)Light-emitting diodes (LEDs) glow when current passes through them. is the most common component used for producing light.
LDR (light dependent resistor)
An LDR, or Light Dependent Resistor, is a resistor that changes its resistance based on the amount of light it is exposed to. They are commonly used in light sensors, such as automatic lighting systems and cameras.
Resistor
A resistor is an electrical component that is used to control the flow of electric current in a circuit.
