Physics class 3 Flashcards
(12 cards)
What is a difference between heat and temperature?
heat is non-mechincal energy between system and environment (depends on mass of material)
Temperature is the internal (thermal) energy of a system. depends on density or color not how much of it there is. Temp is average kinetic energy whereas thermal energy is total.
Does thermal energy depend on mass?
Yes it does
Does adding heat resulting in phase change raise the temperature?
No
What is the 0th law of thermodynamics?
two substances that are in contact, heat transfers between them until they reach thermal equilibrium (same temperature)
the 1st law of thermodynamics
Change of an internal energy of a system depends on the heat flow in and out and the work done on or by the system
For ideal gas, what is the type of internal energy
Its kinetic energy of the particles
Name the 4 thermodynamic processes (pathways to go form one state to another)
Isobaric: Constant pressure
Isochoric: constant volume
Isothermal: constant temperature
Adiabatic: no heat transfer
If something is floating, what is the net force?
Net force would be zero since its in one place
Name the four conditions for Ideal fluid flow
Imcompressibility
laminar flow
Flow rate is steady
Negligible viscosity
What is temperate?
internal kinetic energy
what is the second law of thermodynamics?
Entropy of a closed system can only decrease if entropy the surrounding system increases
When a gas does positive work on the environment what is the value of Q
Q>0
