Physics 2b Flashcards
1
Q
- Tension
- Extension
- Compression
- What is hooks law
A
- A force acting within a material in a direction that would extend the material
2.An increase in the the size of a material sample caused by tension force - A force acting within a material in a direction that would squash the material. Also the decrease in size of a material sample under a compressive force
- Hooks law states that the force needed to extend a spring is proportional to the extension (until it reaches limit of proportionality)
2
Q
- What is limit of proportionality
- Force applied=
A
- The maximum extension an object can have which is still proportional to the load applied
- Force applied(N) = stiffness constant (N m–1) X extension(m)
3
Q
Behaving elastically vs plastically
A
Regains original dimensions when deforming forve is removed VS retains its shape after deforming force is removed
