Physics 2.2.4 Flashcards
What does AC stand for?
Alternating Current.
What does DC stand for?
Direct Current.
Define ‘Direct Current’:
A Current that is steady, constantly Flowing in the same Direction in a Circuit, from Positive to Negative.
Describe the Potential Difference across a Cell in a DC Circuit.
The PD is in one Direction only.
What Produces Direct Current? (2)
-Cells.
-Batteries.
Define ‘Alternating Current’:
A Current that continuously changes its Direction, going back & forth around a Circuit.
What does Direct Current look like on an Oscilloscope?
A Straight Line.
What does Alternating Current look like on an Oscilloscope?
Oscillating Line.
Define the ‘Frequency’ of an AC:
The number of times the Current changes Direction back & forth each Second.
What is the Frequency in the UK?
50Hz.
What is the Potential Difference in the UK?
230V.
