Physics Flashcards
Heat + Sounds
What is a solid?
All packed together.
What is a liquid?
Some together some not.
What is gas?
All spread apart
What is a vacuum?
a volume of empty matter, also called free space.
How is sound created?
Sound is created by vibrating objects which causes the other particles to vibrate.
What are the 2 types of wave energy?
Transverse and longitudinal.
What is the amplitude?
It is the maximum distance from rest position to peak/ rest point.
What is the wavelength?
It is how long the wave is
What is the Trough?
It is the lowest point in the wave below the amplitude.
What is the peak?
It is the highest point above the amplitude.
What is Magnetic energy?
magnetic domains inside a magnetic material that create a field like those around magnets or when a current flows through an inductor
What is thermal energy?
the energy contained within a system that is responsible for its temperature.
What is kinetic energy?
a form of energy that an object or a particle has by reason of its motion.
What is electrostatic energy?
It is charged particles in an electric field.
What is elastic potential energy
Potential energy stored as a result of deformation of an elastic object, such as the stretching of a spring.
What is gravitational potential energy?
The higher an object is the more gravitational potential energy it has.
What is nuclear energy?
a form of energy released from the nucleus, the core of atoms, made up of protons and neutrons.
Machines can transfer energy from one form to another and 1 of 4 ways is a mechanical way.
This includes kinetic energy , GPE, EPE
Machines can transfer energy from one form to another and 1 of 4 ways is an electrical way
Tiny charged particles flowing around a circuit.
Machines can transfer energy from one form to another and 1 of 4 ways is a heating way
Transfer of thermal energy from one place to another.
