Physics Flashcards
What were Galileo’s contributions to science?
He discovered Jupiter’s moons and Venus’ phases
What are the 8 steps in the Scientific Method?
State the problem, Research the problem, Form a hypothesis. Conduct an experiment, Collect data, Analyze the data, Form a conclusion, Repeat the work
What is the difference between accuracy and precision?
Accuracy is the difference between 1 measurement
Precision is the degree of resolution or fine-ness in a measurement
What is the difference between matter, inertia, and mass?
Matter is anything made of atoms or parts of atoms. Inertia is a property of matter that causes all matter to prefer it’s present state of motion. Mass is the variable used to quantify the amount of inertia in an object.
What is the difference between a theory and a hypothesis?
A theory is a model that seeks to account for and explain the related facts and provide means for producing new hypotheses
A hypothesis is an informed prediction based off of a theory
What are the 9 forms of energy?
Gravitational Potential, Kinetic, Light, Chemical Potential, Electrical, Thermal, Elastic Potential, Acoustic, and Nuclear Energy
What is the difference between fission and fusion?
Fission splits the atoms apart. Fusion combines the atoms together
Newton is the SI unit for measuring ____
Force
Joule is the SI unit for measuring _____
Work
Watt is the SI unit for measuring _____
Power
What is the formula for velocity?
d/t
What is the formula for acceleration?
v/t
What is the formula for potential energy?
mgh
What is the formula for kinetic energy?
1/2mV(squared)
What is the formula for work?
Fd
What is a Product and a Reactant?
A Product is a compound formed by a chemical reaction
A Reactant is made by the product
What is Kepler’s First Law of Planetary Motion?
Each planet orbits the Sun in a ellipse
What is the difference between truth and facts and why is it important?
Truth is the way things really are that are revealed through observation and special revelation and cannot change.
Facts are statements proved through experimentation and can be changed.
And they are frequently confused
What is Newton’s 1st Law of Motion?
An object at motion will remain in motion and an object at rest will remain in rest unless acted on by an unbalance force
What is Newton’s 2nd Law of Motion?
F = ma
What is Newton’s 3rd Law of Motion?
For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction
What are the 7 bodies of the Ptolemaic Model? (except earth)
Moon, Mercury, Venus, Sun, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn
What is the Firmament?
The region of the Ptolemaic model where the stars are fixed
What is the Primum Mobile?
The region of the Ptolemaic model where God spins all the planets
What is the Empyrean?
The region of the Ptolemaic model where God lives (basically heaven)
What is the Law of Conservation of Energy?
Energy cannot be created or destroyed, only changed in form
