Physics Flashcards
What is Archimedes Principle?
States that when a body is immersed in a fluid the upthrust it experiences is equal to the weight of the fluid displaced (by the body)
Archimedes Principle- Formula for object floating in water
Density liquid X Volume object in water X g = Density object X Volume total object X g
Archimedes Principle - Formula for object with mass placed on top so that all object is submerged
Density Liquid X Volume total object (totally submerged) X g = Density object X volume total X g + Density mass X Volume total mass X g
Archimedes Principle - mass hanging off balance and becomes submerged in liquid Formula
upthrust= Density liquid X Volume object in water X g
Archimedes Principle - Balloon with mass M attached - Formula
Density air X Volume total X g = Density gas(in balloon) X Volume total X g + Mg
