Physics Flashcards
What is white light?
A combination of all colours in the colour spectrum
Why are there black lines in the light spectrum from the sun?
To indicate lower intensity colours emitted by the sun
What is ultra violet used for?
Illuminating things/ making things glow.
Why may ultra violet be bad for you?
As it can cause skin cancer and be harmful to your eyes.
How you can be protected by ultra violet?
Stay inside during hottest parts of the day
How are X-RAYS produced
When electrons or other particles moving at a high speed collides with metal target
How are Gamma rays produced?
When radioactive substance unstable when neclear releases energy
What do long wave length radio waves follow?
Follow the curvature of the earth.
What do medium wave length radio waves reflect against?
Back to the earths surface by a layer in the atmosphere
What can short wave length radio waves do?
Pass through the Longmusphere and out into space
What can microwave wavelength waves past through?
The ionosphere an out into space
What can microwaves pass easily through?
The earths atmosphere without being reflected or absorbed
What is light
A transverse wave
What does light do
Transfers energy
What else does light do
Travels across a vacuum and has no mass
