Physical Vs Chemical Change Flashcards
How is physical change different from chemical change?
Chemical change forms a new substance while physical change is the same substance but in a different state
Physical properties
Characteristics of substance that can be observed with the senses and measured without changing identity of substance
Solubility
Ability of substance to dissolve in another substance
Ductility
Solid that can be stretched into a long wire
Conductivity
Ability to conduct heat or electricity
Density
Amount of mass in given volume
Viscosity
Resistance to flow
Melting/boiling point
Temperature at which a substance changes state
Transparent
Allows light through
Ex. Glass
Translucent
Allows some light through
Ex. Tinted windows
Opaque
Allows no light through
Ex. Binder
What are 5 signs of a chemical change?
- Colour change
- Bubbles of gas form
- Gives off heat or light
- Difficult to reverse
- Precipitate
