Physical Science Flashcards
Friction
The resistance that one surface or object encounters while moving over another surface.
Velocity
The speed of something while going in a certain direction.
Average speed
The distance of the interval divided by the duration of the interval.
Radiation
The transfer of heat through empty space. For example the sun heating up a metal rod by using the suns rays which creates radiation.
Convection
The transfer of heat through liquid or gas. You can put ice cubes on a burner and the burner heats them up with the gas and they begin to melt.
Conduction
The transfer of heat through touch. For example you touch your desk and it becomes the same temperature because you are transferring the heat from your hands to your desk.
Physical properties
A physical property is one that is measureable and in a physical state.
Physical changes
Physical changes affect the chemical substance but not the chemical composition.
Chemical properties
When the chemical composition and identity changed the substance.
Chemical changes
A chemical reaction causing the property or composition to change.
Newtons 1st law
The law of inertia. When an object is at rest it wants to stay at rest. Unless a force acts upon it.
Force
A push or a pull on an object.
Newtons 2nd law
When two forces on an object do not move the forces are unbalanced.
Newtons 3rd law
For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction .
