What is a physical quantity?
It consists of a numerical magnitude and a unit. It is a quantity which can be measured.
What is a non-physical quantity?
They cannot be measured. e.g pain, taste, spirituality
What are base quantities?
7 fundamental quantities which are made standard by scientists. They can’t be further simplified.
1. Length
2 Mass
3 Time
4. Temperature
5. Luminosity
6. Amount of substance/mol
7. Electric current
What are Base units?
They are units of base quantities. All other units can be determined in terms of base units. Each base unit has an associated dimension.
What are Derived Quantities?
They are related to base quantities through a defining equation. It can be expressed as the producer or quotient of the base quantities.
What are derived units?
They consist of some combination of the base units.(multiplied or divided). They are derived from base units
What are the base units for density?
Density= mass/volume
kg/m3= kgm-3
What are base units for Acceleration?
a= final velocity-initial velocity/time
v-u/t
ms-1/s = ms-2
