Physical Properties Flashcards
What are the PHYSICAL properties of Group I (Alkali) Metals?
Soft – can be cut with a knife
Low density – float on water
Low melting and boiling points
What are the PHYSICAL properties of Group II (Alkaline earth) metals?
They are harder than Group I metals, have a higher density than Group I metals and have
higher melting and boiling points than Group I metals.
What are the PHYSICAL properties of Transition Metals?
Strong
High melting points and boiling points (except Mercury, which is a liquid at room
temperature)
High density
What are the PHYSICAL properties of Group VII (Halogens)?
Are colourful elements
Are poisonous
Have low melting and boiling points
What are the PHYSICAL properties of Group 0/8 (Noble Gases) elements?
Colourless gases at room temperature
Form monatomic molecules
