Physical layer Flashcards
1
Q
What is a commonly used encoding system and how does it work? What are it’s benefits?
A
Manchester code. It uses rising and falling edges of the signal to represent ones and zeros. Benefits are that it’s self-clocking (no synchronization problems in case of stream of consecutive ones or zeros) and its better signal quality.
2
Q
What cables are most commonly used for Ethernet networks?
A
Twisted-pair cables
3
Q
What frequencies does WLAN operate on?
A
2.4 GHz and 5 GHz
