Ridge Push
• This happens at mid-ocean ridges, where new crust is formed as magma rises from below the Earth’s surface.
• The new crust is hot and less dense, so it sits higher than the older, cooler crust.
• Gravity causes the new crust to slide away from the ridge, pushing the tectonic plates apart

How does re wetting peat store more carbon
• Restores waterlogged conditions, reducing oxygen levels and slowing decomposition. • Prevents CO₂ release by stopping peat from drying out and decomposing. • Encourages sphagnum moss growth, which absorbs CO₂ and helps peat formation. • Reduces wildfire risk, preventing stored carbon from being burned and released. • Prevents erosion, keeping carbon locked in the soil. • Example: Exmoor Mires Project (UK) → Raised water table, increased carbon storage, reduced CO₂ emissions.
