Physical Examiation Flashcards
Which muscles & nerves are having their integrity tested in the Apley scratch test?
- aBduction: deltoid (axillary n.), supraspinatous (suprascapular n.)
- Lateral Rotation: infraspinatous (suprascapular n.), teres minor (axillary n)
- Medial Rotation: teres major (lower subscapular n.) subscapularis (subscapular nn.) latissimus dorsi (thoracodorsal n.)
- aDduction: teres major (lower subscapular n.), latissimus dorsi
Which directions of mobility does the Apley “scratch” test determine?
Patient’s range of motion
1) aBduction & external rotation- reach behind head, touch superior medial angle of scapula
2) aDduction & internal rotation- reach across chest and touch opposite acromion
What does the Yearguson test determine?
Stability of long head of brachii tendon within the intertubercular groove
What does the drop arm test determine?
Tears in the rotator cuff
Which muscles and nerves have their integrity tested in the drop arm test?
1) Teres minor - axillary n.
2) Infraspinatus - suprascapularis n.
3) Supraspinatus - suprascapularis n.
4) Subscapularis - subscapular n.
Which internal organs may refer pain to the shoulder region?
Heart & lungs, sometimes the liver
