physical development & nutrition in infancy Flashcards
synaptogenenis
the process of forming connections between neurons in the nervous system
synaptic blooming
a period of rapid neural growth in early childhood, particularly during infancy and toddlerhood
synaptic pruning
the elimination of neurons as the result of nonuse or lack of stimulation
Neuroplasticity

polyphasic
interspersed with brief wake ups, mostly for feeding
co-sleeping
increased risk for SIDS, easier for parents
SIDS
sudden infant death syndrome
cephalocaudal principle
describes the pattern of growth and development from the head down
proximodistal principle
development proceeds from the center(middle) of the body outward
