Physical + Chemical Changes Flashcards
easy
1
Q
Physical Change
A
When a substance changes size, state or other features BUT DOESN’T become a new substance. It doesn’t affect the identity of a substance and are reversible
2
Q
Chemical Change
A
The original substance is changed into one or more new substances with different physical/chemical properties. These changes affect the identity of the substance and can be detected by signs that a reaction has occured.
3
Q
Evidence of Chemical Change
A
- Colour change from within
- Production of gas or odour
- Release or absorption of heat
- Production of light or sound
- Total loss of identity
- Formation of a precipitate (solid comes out of solution)
- Temperature change
- Very difficult/impossible to reverse
4
Q
Exothermic
A
Chemical reaction in which energy is primarily given off in the form of heat.
5
Q
Endothermic
A
Chemical reaction occurring or formed with absorption of heat.
