Phylosiphy Flashcards
Is belief in god reasonable
Schleiermacher
All societies in history have a conclusion of god and god consciousness in our mind
Feuerbach
All societies believe in some type of god and provides them with something they don’t have that they need
Swinburne
Cumulative argument explains if you put all the argument of god together it overcomes any weaknesses
Flew
Leaky bucket argument explains that many flawed arguments put together wouldn’t support the existence of god.
Cosmological argument
All things come from something and that first creator was god.
Cosmological critcism
Nothin comes from nothing and there can’t be an exception for god being created
How the Big Bang created
Cosmological argument explains god created the Big Bang since everything has a creator as it was created when the universe was a dense nucleus and that nucleus exploded
Design argument
Everything has a design and a designer and wasn’t naturally or accidentally made
Design argument strengths
If you put flower petals and a circle in a jar randomly and took it back out again, it wouldn’t be the shape of the flower we know, this means somebody designed it
Design argument strength
If the eye was made randomly we wouldn’t be able to see but since it had a specific design we are able to see
Design argument weakness
Evolution means organisms had to adapt which meant that if there was a designer it didn’t design the organism properly and why would you do that
Religious experience argument
A phenomenon which occurs out of doors and it is true as you heard/saw the presence of god
Religious experience strengths
Lots of people claim to have these experiences such as mother Theresa who helped the Indian poor
Religious experience weakness
Presence of god being around is very minor evidence and there is no strong evidence which proves it’s real. Also people can be lying about the presence if god
Religious experience weakness
Can’t be proven physically
